Winchester Prison Family Days

Winchester is a category B/C prison. Family days allow the children of prisoners to visit in a safe and friendly environment. Play areas are set out so that children can play, paint and read with their fathers.

Rotary provides volunteers to operate the "tea bar" which serves tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks to those present, free of charge. Besides making the drinks there's the washing up and the chance to enjoy prison food in the form of a free hot lunch. We help between 10:00am & 1:00pm and enter & leave with the children.

We work best when providing two or more volunteers. If you are a Rotarian (of any local club), friend or spouse you will be welcome. There are no forms to fill in and when you arrive at the prison photo-ID is all that is required. The role is mainly performed standing and may not be suitable for everyone.
